Performance coaching

Make better decisions when the stakes are high.

Most executives don't need another cheerleader. They need someone willing to challenge their assumptions, pressure-test their thinking and improve the quality of their decisions in real time.

I bring a forward-deployed coaching style shaped by years of owning large P&Ls and hiring, firing, managing and inspiring teams. I work alongside clients on the decisions that matter most, in the arena.

Using game theory, role-playing and proprietary exercises, I help executives sharpen their judgment, navigate high-stakes situations and bring out the best in the people around them.

For you if: You're already performing at a high level and want a candid thinking partner for consequential decisions, difficult relationships or a bigger leadership challenge.

Building a successful portfolio career

Bolder thinking for a more diversified and durable next chapter.

Your job is one part of your career. It doesn't have to carry the whole thing.

The old social contract between employer and employee is breaking down. AI, structural inflation, ageism, longer healthspans, shareholder primacy and economic volatility are reshaping what a career can look like.

Most aspiring portfolio careerists make the mistake of applying an outdated career playbook to a rapidly evolving world. I know because I've made nearly every mistake myself. I help clients build diversified portfolios of professional activities rather than bet everything on a single professional roll of the dice.

For you if: You want to put your experience to work across a more deliberate mix of roles, ventures or advisory work, including alongside a current job.

The approach

The work starts with the decision in front of you.

I work one-to-one with accomplished professionals who are willing to question their own thinking. Sometimes that means pressure-testing a decision. Sometimes it means rehearsing a difficult conversation or examining the assumptions holding back a career progression.

My role is to challenge you in a way that helps you move forward. The goal is to turn your natural gifts into a more effective way of leading, deciding and working with other people.

Direct dialogue. Real situations. Personal accountability.

About Gregg Schoenberg

I've had more than one professional life.

I've been a legislative aide, lobbyist, investment banker, crisis management professional, media entrepreneur and investor. I led capital markets at Natixis and co-founded The Financial Revolutionist, a leading fintech media company.

Today, I coach and mentor senior executives who are ready to challenge their own legacy thinking. I also help accomplished professionals build portfolio careers, drawing on the lessons and mistakes of my own.

That experience shapes the way I coach. I know what it takes to lead teams, carry responsibility and make consequential decisions without a perfect answer.

Why a red stapler?

As a junior banker, I once pushed a colleague's patience far enough that she threw a stapler at my head. Direct hit. That story stayed with me. So did the question behind it: how do you challenge someone in a way that actually leads to productive change?
